Opening up paths and reaching out into chaos, over there, a promising
summit of aesthetics sublimes have opening arms. To be embraced, by
dimensions, devoid of the classical sense of physics, devoid of the sense
of justice in Old Testament, whereas logical causation and genocides
(cultural obliteration is ultimate driving force) rebounding between the
dialectic phases of contradictions, aggressions, hatred, apocalyptical
vindictiveness; however, on the contrary to those, it enters into certain
sense of quantum dynamics of which there are autonomously interacting
within complimentary worlds of spontaneity, of uncalculated acts.
Quantum leap, the experiment of this collaboration project is aimed to
bring out the compelling emotion from the younger generation of Asian
theatre devotees into simulacrum of quantum worlds like fortuitous
creativity. Leaping into new thresholds of break- through, as we wish, be
it attainable.
This inviting chaos is not fusion of conventional artistic maneuvering,
but it is de-familiarized inter-cultural signs which transposing across
the boundaries of socio-culturally codes set in the languages of
theatrical expression from various countries. We intend to re-adopt codes
from one another socio-cultural backgrounds, and flashing out the
crudeness meta-languages of theatre as sheer proxemics display.
Krio theatre of Sierra Leone, West Africa is a source of inspiration. They
practice multi- (con) textual shifting for audiences of several linguistic
ethnic groups in a single piece of performance. Asia meets Asia festival
was honored to have Theatre Mandiri of Indonesia presented in November
2001. Putu Wijaya, the group leader, inspired us with his maneuvering the
swing between the illusionary worlds and emotional impacts of human lives.
Historically, there was a genre called “Images theatre” practiced by
Richard Foreman in mid-seventies of last century. Rather to be
differentiating from globalization of avant-gardism, Putu Wijaya elevated
traditional wayang into contemporary theatre, but rooted into Asian ways
of practice. We want to avail this opportunity to carry further on, from
these inspirations.
